(KINCARDINE, ON.) – The phrase “don’t be taken by surprise” has many meanings and references. The Western Region Traffic Enforcement Unit want you to understand that for the time period of 14th – 24th of April, the phrase means you stand to lose a significant chunk of cash and gain Demerit Points for not wearing a seat belt or ensuring children are properly secured.

Just so motorists don’t suffer from “STICKER SHOCK” the OPP want you to know that the price for a seat belt these days is $240. You will also log 2 Demerit Points on your licence and who knows what affect that may have on your insurance.

The bottom line is that no officer wants to go to a door and tell anyone that someone they loved has died. It’s even hard for officers to deliver this news when they know the person may have lived if they had their seat belt on.

Police everywhere would be happy if you simply buckled up! Issuing tickets isn’t our goal, highway safety is! If you’re not buckled up, what’s holding you back!
