Local Special Olympian off to World Winter Games

Special Olympian, Cindy Collins, is off to South Korea at the end of the month (January) for the World Winter Games in Pyeong Chang.

Collins will be one of 102 athletes making up the Team Canada training team for the SOI (Special Olympics International) Winter Games. There will be 113 countries competing at the games in South Korea. The sports being contested will be snowshoeing, Nordic and Alpine skiing, speed skating, figure skating and floor hockey. According to Training Coach, Shelley Bellamy, "This will be the largest team that Canada has ever sent to international competition."

Collins will be competing in the 100 and 200 metre Snowshoe Sprints for which she has been training year round.

Before heading off to the Winter Games, Collins has had some official duties at home, including dropping the Ceremonial puck at the recent Saugeen Shores WOAA Winterhawks game against the Shallow Lake Crushers.
