Bowl for Kids 2016 a big success

In bowling alleys across Bruce and Grey Counties, Bowl for Kids was held Saturday, March 5th in support of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the organization that helps young people by matching them up with a 'mentoring' adult.

The event is a major FUNdraiser held in each year where teams and individuals enjoy a day of bowling while raising money through pledges.

This year, in Owen Sound, some 250 people turned out to throw balls and make 2016 a record breaking year with $30,000 raised.

Owen Sound branch of Big Brothers is a charter member in Canada and goes back over 50 years.

"More than ever before, young boys today need a hand up to face the challenges life throws in their way," says Board Member, Jim Belden.  "A Big Brother is a teacher, a leader,  and a hero to his Little Brother and he brings a positive influence into his life and future prospects; just ask " little Billy's" teacher how much improvement she sees in the classroom."

Critical to the organization's progress however is the recruitment of mentors as Big Brothers.  "We hope a few good men would be willing to spend some time with boys in the community and they can always give us a call at 519-376-4449 for more information," says Board Member, Glen Breadner.
