We have been asked many times to once again begin a cooking column and, now, we are pleased to introduce ... Let's get Cooking!
Once a week, we are going to offer a favourite recipe ... maybe it will be an old-fashioned dish from grandma's kitchen or a simple-to-create meal for a busy mom.
Here is our first receipt so ...
Let's get Cooking!
1 c. long grain rice
1 tbsp. grated onion
1/4 c. Italian style dressing
2 bsp. soya sauce
1/2 c. grated raw carrot
6 mushrooms, sliced
1/4 c. sliced black olives
1/2 c. toasted almonds (optional)
1/2 c. shrimp (optional)
*Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil and stir in rice
*Cover and turn heat low
*Let simmer until rice is tender and all liquid has been absorbed
*Shake pan to make sure rice at the bottom is dry. Lift out bay leaf
*Stir in onion and dressing
*Add remaining ingredients and heat thoroughly
Delicious with chicken breast or pork tenderloin!
