Congregation celebrates centenarian Dr. Margaret Large-Cardosa

With a twinkle in her eye and dressed in high style, centenarian Dr. Margaret Large-Cardosa celebrated an early birthday with her church family at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Southampton on Sunday, May 8th, Mother's Day.

Dr. Large will officially turn 100 on May 13th, 2016.

The year, Dr. Large-Cardoso was born, 1916, so was Dixieland Jazz; Pancho Villa lead the Mexican Revolution; Mary Sanger was arrested for distributing contraceptives in New York state; the first 40-hour work week officially began; Ruth Law flew from Chicago to New York setting a new distance record for cross-country flight; Emma Goldman was arrested for lecturing on birth control and the world was in the third year of the first World War.

Margaret Large was encouraged to attain an education and received a bachelor's degree in English and History from the University of Toronto, a Masters in Health Education from Wayne State University and then a PhD in Health Education from the University of Michigan's School of Public Health.

Today, Dr. Large-Cardosa remains active in St. Paul's Anglican Church and the Canadian Federation of University Women Southport where she is involved with various sub-groups.
