Learn more about fraud scams at upcoming information session

On Thursday May 26, 2016 at 6:00 p.m., the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and Crime Stoppers of Grey-Bruce; are partnering up to help fight fraud.  The information session will be held at Peninsula Shores District School auditorium at 115 George Street in the Town of Wiarton.

This is event is for ALL ages-Fraudsters arenít picky!

Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been receiving several complaints regarding the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) Scam; which is continuing to be very active in our area. Residents of all ages are reporting that fraudsters are using threatening, aggressive and forceful language to encourage them pay fictitious debts to the government. They will threaten police action with the victim being arrested, charged, taken to court, going to jail or being deported.

On a positive note, residents who have made these reports are telling Police that they are aware of the scams and are hanging up! The Bruce Peninsula OPP is encouraging everyone to continue talking and telling friends about potential scams.

If you, or someone you know, suspect theyíve been a victim of fraud or just wanting to learn more, police encourage you to attend the information session.  Many different scams will be covered, showing you how to protect yourself and what steps you need to take to secure your personal property, as well as, protect your parents, children, family and friends. \
