Saugeen First Nation elects new Chief and Council

Saugeen First Nation has a newly elected Chief, Lester Anoquot, and Band Council members following the recent 2016 Election held June 23rd.

Anoqot received 207 votes with the next closest being Steven Vanloffeld at 167.  He has been a member of Chief and Council for some 26 years and has filled the position of Chief on several occasions.

The newly elected Chief is also a graduate of Fanshawe College in London with a diploma in Recreation Leadership and also has his certification from the Ontario Fire College as a Facilitator Trainer and is Deputy Fire Chief and involved as a volunteer firefighter for over 28 years with the Saugeen Reserve Fire Service.

He also holds an Ontario Minor Hockey Coaching Certificate and remains an avid sportsman playing hockey, golf and is a scuba diver.

In addition, the newly elected Band Councilors are:

Randal Roote, Sonya Roote, Ken Roote (Stub); Mike Henry; Lorne Mandawoub; Cheree  Urscheler (Ladd); Steven Vanloffeld; Clinton Root; Spencer Ritchie.
