Every summer, Southampton (Saugeen Shores) is filled with cultural experiences that include art shows, plays and concerts.

The most recent concerts were held on the same night, Thursday, August 18th (2016) ... one at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre and the other at the Southampton United Church.

The Museum featured the acclaimed David Newland and the band 'Uncharted Waters' performing 'The Northwest Passage in Story & Song'.

Newland, who was named a 'Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society' last year (2015), has many credits to his name including emcee for Summerfolk and Mariposa in addition to being a writer  for Discovery Channel Canada.  He has backpacked throughout several countries from India to Mexico and Costa Rica, has visited Mishkeegogamang Ojibway Nation in Northern Ontario and is now working on his recent project 'The Northwest Passage in Story and Song' that he performed at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.

At the Museum he lead the audience through a short history lesson on Canada's Arctic including the explorations of Franklin.  He also stressed the impact that European culture had had on the Inuit peoples of the North but, all the while, adding a light touch of humour to the perspective.  Interspersed with photos of his northern travels, Newland is a master emcee.

Following his video and oral presentation, Newland and Uncharted Waters performed his most recent musical compositions from 'The Northwest Passage in Story & Song'.
