Stolen trailer used to steal more items from renovation site

On September 6, 2016 at approximately 12:41 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break-in and theft from a residence undergoing renovation on Southgate Sideroad 71 in the Township of Southgate.

Sometime between September 3rd and September 5th unknown person(s) forcibly entered the residence and stole a number of items which included a new American Standard toilet and bath tub, an exterior door, light switches, cement forms, and an assortment of Mastercraft, Makita and Rigid brand tools.  In addition, the culprits used a 2008 Catr UT7 utility trailer on the property to transport the stolen goods.

On September 10, 2016 at approximately 7:00 a.m., an off-duty Shelburne Police Officer observed a suspicious pick-up truck and trailer occupied by 2 male occupants on the 4th Line in Dufferin County.

With the assistance of Shelburne Police Service, Orangeville Police Service and Dufferin OPP, the vehicle was stopped and the two males were arrested after it was found that the trailer was the one stolen from Southgate Sideroad 71 in Grey County.  A number of stolen items were recovered as a result of the traffic stop.

A 33-year old Shelburne man and a 25-year old Melancthon Township man were charged with several criminal offences by Dufferin OPP.

On September 11, 2016 at approximately 7:34 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an erratic driver, possibly impaired, operating a vehicle northbound on Hwy. 6 & 10 near Chatsworth. 

Information was received that the vehicle was swerving into on-coming traffic, tailgating and slamming on the brakes. Police stopped the suspect vehicle, a 2006 Cadillac CTS, on Hwy. 6 & 10 just south of Owen Sound, and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.  He was arrested and transported to the Chatsworth OPP Detachment for breath tests which he failed. 

The 19-year old male driver of the Township of Southgate was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having a blood/alcohol level of over 80 milligrams, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was carrying a 15-year old female passenger at the time. He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on October 6, 2016.

On Sunday, September 11, 2016 at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and the OPP Critical Incident Unit responded to a weapons incident on Allan Park Road in the Municipality of West Grey.

The West Grey Police Service requested OPP assistance after receiving a report of a male firing a weapon inside a residence on Allen Park Road. Allan Park Road was closed from Grey Rd. 4 south to Concession 2 as containment was set up around the residence.  Hanover Police Service assisted at the scene.

At approximately 8:03 a.m. the incident was resolved peacefully. A 32-year old West Grey man was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
