The gov't is always promoting healthy life styles and this is one of the best walking and biking trails we have. Must someone be killed before something is done? Lowering the speed limit until after HighBerry Farms might be a start.

MOT has total control over that piece of highway and no other person or organization is allowed to make alterations or additions to that property.

The problem is not the rail trail it is the location of the entrance way to the business. Move that entrance way several hundred metres south and make people drive in a laneway to the parking lot.

As a biker, I have almost been hit numerous times by people "passing" on the unpaved shoulder. This is an incredibly dangerous crossing, and makes the rail trail a dangerous biking path.

Bike riders need to plan there rides so as not to be around high traffic times. I personally have never had a problem. But then again I don't cross on a Saturday of a long weekend at 4pm.

As a summer cyclist it is crazy trying to comfortably cross this highway. The action at Hiberry Farms makes it worse. Maybe the two danger areas could be combined and solved in one go!

I ride my bike on the rail trail at least weekly. The problem is not the rail trail, the cause of the problem is the trafic to and from the farmers market.Rail trail crossing does not appear to be a problem in the Spring and late Summer when the market is closed. Some government authority created a left turn lane into Tim Hortons in Southampton, can they not do the same at the market.

Much of the issue stems from vehicles turning into Highberry Farms and other vehicles illegally passing on the shoulder. I say yes because some of the half-baked drivers out there, including locals, don't follow the rules of the road. Perhaps a better solution would be for the Ministry, the Town, Highberry Farms and the Rail Trail Association work together to resolve the issue.

It would just take 4 cement barriers on each side of the hwy at the cross walk to keep drivers from the driving on the gravel. If they were there they wouldn't be able to go around cars turning into Hi Berry

I have had a couple of close call of vehicles passing me on the right at the crossing, as well as saw two people nearly hit crossing. It seems the MOT will not do anything until there is a death related to the crossing

The Ministry of Transportation is responsible for the highways and as such it really needs to examine this stretch of highway before someone gets killed.

Start planning for a long overdue by-pass, which will not only solve the rail trail crossing problem on highway 21, but many other nuisance traffic concerns in Port Elgin and Southampton.

If the M.O.T. is responsible for this portion of the highway and people are showing concern, I believe that it is their duty to take those concerns seriously. They might even consider placing pylons (perhaps) on the shoulders of the roads. This might deter drivers from passing on the right without creating a hazard for someone who has to pull onto the shoulder in an emergency.

Because they extract a vast amount of tax dollars and do very little to enhance safety. The police are left holding responsibility without funding assistance. It would be shameful/atrocious if the MOT neglected the issue till the first fatal accident. And at that point I dont think we will be calling it an accident!

How exactly does the survey define "the problem"? Currently it is a subjective, personal opinion and so asking whether the MOT should "solve" the "problem" is a terribly biased way to conduct any survey.

Albeit a great idea, the Rail Trail is the brain child of the town, even tho the province is allowing us to use the old rail bed. A better idea is to re-route the trail, keeping it west of the highway.

Not MTO's problem or the users of 21. The rail trail committee and it's users should solve the problem. Any solution that causes traffic disruption then becomes the problem of thousands of drivers.

The solution that is appropriate should come from MoT but the funds involved would be the responsibility of the County. This is not the only place the trail crosses a highway.

This is a problem that must be resolved before someone is killed or badly injured. I myself have had difficulty trying to cross hwy 21 on the trail.

Someone needs to. It will not get any cheaper the longer they wait. I feel everyone is waiting for a major accident to occur. We have a small business beside the rail trail and hear near misses daily. I hope it can get resolved before it comes to a body count. How come we can always find the money to do something like this after people have died and not before? It is inevitable.

I have written the Ministry several times suggesting the entire route from Southampton to Port Elgin should be 60 km/hr.-there are about 20 entry/exits of driveways etc. in 5 km stretch. Slower speeds and signage would be helpful.

Hwy 21 from Southampton to Port should all be 60 kph not 80 and there should be a traffic light at the Rail Trial. We need to encourage safe cycling.
