The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks continued their winning ways Friday night in Shallow Lake.
The trio of Andy Mitchell, Alex Penner and Andy Fracz were all over the scoresheet en route to a 4-1 win over the Crushers.
Mitchell opened the scoring at 1:48 of the 1st period, beating former Winterhawk-turned-Shallow Lake netminder Kevin McGivern to make it 1-0, with Penner picking up an assist.
The Winterhawks and Crushers have always had physical battles, and this night was no different, as Crushers captain Adam Weir was sent to the showers for checking from behind just 4:01 into the game, while the 'Hawks Trent Hawke picked up a checking to the head penalty a few minutes later.
Curtis Johnston added to the Winterhawks lead at the 8:01 mark of the 2nd period, converting a powerplay marker from Bryan Kazarian.
Just a minute-and-a-half later, Mitchell notched his 2nd of the night, with Fracz and Penner picking up the assists.
Winterhawks netminder Jeff Flagler put on another solid performance, running a shutout streak to 94 minutes to start his senior hockey career before Jeremiah Henderson of Shallow Lake scored to cut the Winterhawks lead to 3-1.
Penner put things away early in the 3rd period, with Mitchell assisting, to make it a 4-1 final.
Flagler made 26 saves for the win in goal.
The win is the third-straight for the Winterhawks, who improve to 3-1-0 on the season. The road swing continues tonight [Saturday] with the first-ever trip to Seaforth to face the 3-2-0 Huron East Centenaires at 7:30 p.m.
