In this survey there were an inordinate number of
multiple votes with a comment that indicated anger and/or frustration.
We counted only one vote whether No or Yes.
Multiple voting ....
hmmmm. You can express your opinion easily in the comments without
trying to influence the vote one way or another. Most people just
vote and don't comment.
Are you willing to pay more
taxes so your services w
For Example Police Service should be local. Forget the
Services are critical to property values.
Too much tax now
Very limited services now, couldn't possibly become less!
It looks like admin and sLarys are the problem. We are not bruce power.
Cut the wages. Save the less fortunate some money
40 dedicated local cops to chase down bike thefts and public drunkeness...I
feel safer now thanks
When the town can make capital contributions and assist with operating
expenses for 2 splash pads, shouldn't need tax increase as this would be
the last thing we need to afford.
Time to cut out some services. Time ti cut down on staff.
We have too many self centered people in this town who think they
deserve everything at someone else's expense.
yes, I'm willing at every level of government, but I'd like it to be
based on income. For municipal services I'd like to see the Provincial
Government collect the taxes based on income and distribute them back to
with all the new building permits issued and the dollar amount, where
the hell is that tax money going ?
Yes if there is no waste of money In the town.
Maintain services...OK...spending money on pools or wading pools when we
have a lake at our door step ....not so much.
For one thing, maybe instead of running the trackless sweeper up and
down Miramichi Bay Road 4 or 5 times a day sweeping , but sweeping
nothing , take it and park it in the yard. I'm already paying a way too
much in taxes , so I suggest someone give there head a shake.
We pay enough in taxes already .I would be afraid that I would have to
move out of the area if taxes increased enough to cover a over priced
police station and 6 million dollar beach in port elgin on dollered
beach in port elgin
Let us cut 'consultants' fees all together then Council may earn back
only up to the same rate as inflation. if we are paying more than that,
we should be getting more services
Already pay enough
It is past time to do some serious belt tightning.Increases every year
are higher than any increase in the pension!
Nothing is free and taxes feed civilisation. When we share the cost by
paying taxes, we all benefit from a lifestyle we could never attain
Only if the services are maintained.....it seems it is more taxes, less
services. Enough already
Pay more than enough.
It is already almost impossible for people in the service industry to
afford to live in Saugeen Shores.Such as the police board recommendation
we want a new police building, cost out OPP policing, add on to existing
I said no because there are many services being provided and to be
provided that are not required of the Municipal Act. I'll use the splash
pad or pads and its operating costs as an example. It's targeted to very
few people. Time for Council to review required and not required
programs. Inflation is around 1.5%. The operating budget is currently at
a 4% increase. Something is amiss.
The town needs to review it's staffing numbers.
My taxes are already rising faster than my pension increases. Not
everyone is making big money.
we need a council that will stop handing out money to every group and
organization that ask. We need to get our spending priorities straight.
Maintain services at current or higher levels with out increasing costs
by eliminating waste and improving productivity, like business must do
all of the time.
No thanks. Why not try to live within last years budget like most of us.
I already am receiving less services and paying more taxes. Council must
set their priorities.
Council must prioritize expenditures. A number of management positions
have been added to staff. If these jobs take precedence over service
expenditures then let council explain the reason but not raise taxes to
I live in the municipality of Saugeen Shores and have no municipal water
in or out, no street light, no fire hydrant, no sidewalk. Basically a
plot of land. 99% road use and 1% other so no need to raise taxes on my
Considering that most public employees are paid about 30% more than the
private sector, I'll pay more taxes when these salaries are reduced by
Property taxes having been rising steadily. Every year it compounds.
its the same story everytime give more money they come up with more
excuses why the services didn't happen the pass the buck syndrome no
We already pay a substantial amount, considering the amount of money
spent in federal and provincial taxes, cost of living, etc. So no.
Tax increases for same services should only increase by the amount of
inflation. That is expected and okay. Anything more must be offset by
I expect the Town to reduce the size f its administration in order to
provide more services to ratepayers which I believe s possible..
Service has been cut in the last few years, no leaf pick up, have to
drive to Southampton to dump them. Plow digs up lawn every year = we fix
it not the town.
We live in a great community. Let's keep it that way
what services?????? I already pay for garbage
Upgrading infrastructure is not very exciting but quite necessary. New
projects, although costly, enhance our community .e.g. a new multiple
use recreation centre. What is extremely objectionable are 'some' senior
staff members poor decisions, big salaries and no accountability to the
Depends on services in question
Need to find ways to save the only increase should be the cost of living
We need to re-visit our wants vs our needs and eliminate some of the
soft services we don't really need.
You privatized the garbage collection to save $15,000 per year but will
not privatize the police force over to the O.P.P. to save millions per
The town should prioritize what services are the most important and stop
the services that are nice to have. You can't keep asking taxpayers to
foot the bill all the time.
YES - you pay for quality & professionalism - we have an outstanding
level here in Saugeen Shores & we should think twice before we jump to
what might appear to be a bargain by passing the service off to a
regional or other body (OPP) as an example. That step once taken sees us
lose our autonomy - JHC
Lets start using current tax dollars wisely! Quit repeating/doing
studies on things that are evidently needed. All the money put towards
studies on a new aquatics centre could have been a good start to a
shovel in the ground!
Every service should be on the budget table for review. Some services
such as the Port Elgin airport are no longer required.
For what putting in a Splash Pad??????Town is already overtaxed compared
to other towns. Council seems to think they can keep raising tax dollars
because a large % works at BP. Enough already!!!
If we look around, the municipality is bringing in amazing amounts of
property tax income. We need to pay attention to what is happing
locally. I believe we are being ripped off and citizens are not paying
Municipal staff should take a closer look at their spending to find
operational savings. I suspect there are efficiencies that could be
I say no to higher property taxes because we are paying a high rate for
services. This high rate is supposed to maintain the quality of services
Oh yes! ... I like the services
Love the variety
No but it won't matter as this council is "hell bent" on spending as
though all taxpayers work at Bruce Power!
No. We pay enough in property tax as it is. People are leaving Saugeen
Shores because of high property taxes.
But would be happy to pay more for increased services
yes but within reason--must be justified and tightly controlled with
limits set and maintained
With the increase in building permits issued and the dollar amount there
should be NO increast in taxes. Where is this money going ?
How about streamlining services and improving work efficiency to
maintain or even reduce the property tax. Now that would require more
Obviously, costs always go up and if we want to keep our services, we
will have to pay more because wages and materials will continue to rise.
Don't pay anymore tax and watch things fall apart.
