Marine Heritage  Society holds inaugural meeting

The Marine Heritage Society Board recently held its inaugural meeting for 2017 and unanimously elected John Cherrie as Chair of the Legal and Risk Management Standing Committee.

Cherrie has been a volunteer with the Propeller Club for approximately nine years and has been monitor of the Senior Board for about five years.  The Propeller Club is the founding organization of the Marine Heritage Society and, between them, they maintain Chantry Island and operate the summer tours for visitors to the Island.

Cherrie has been a provincially licenced Insurance Loss Adjuster since1960 and has held various positions with major companies including Cunningham Lindsey, Adjusters Canada, Crawford & Co. and, most recently, as President of Cherrie, Lowthian & Sharoun . 

On retirement, Cherrie created ORCA Consultants Inc. (Outsourced Resources Canada) and continues to work as a consultant on contracts with Environmental Losses, Subrogation Recovery programs for the major insurers in North America.

In addition, he is involved in Project Management on a newly developing project in the City of London as a Risk Management Consultant responsible for the design and implementation of Coverages for the  entire $38.5M project.

In his 'spare' time, Cherrie is also a volunteer with the Rotary Club of Southampton and is on the Board of  Community Living for Owen Sound & District and is also a member of Saugeen Shores Men's Probus Club.
