It may still be winter, but the maple syrup season is just around the corner. Join the Grey Bruce Chapter of the Ontario Maple Syrup Producerís Association for the 2017th 1st Tapping Ceremony on Saturday, February 18 at Westwood Winds B&B (32 Carrick-Brant E), 1st Concession south of Walkerton. ** Watch for the signs.

The event begins at 10:00am and everyone is welcome.

"Itís a great opportunity to visit with and talk with other maple syrup producers," said Nick Bereznick, President of the local chapter. "Itís also a great way to herald the coming of the maple syrup season. Many people do not realize that Ontario is the second largest producer of maple syrup in the country (next to Quebec), producing approximately 1 million litres of the sweet stuff per year. Indeed, Canada produces 71% of the worldís market (approximately 68 million pounds), 91% of which is produced in Quebec."

The first tapping ceremony will begin at the Westwind House for introductions and general hospitality then continue on to the Sugar House and Pine Log Cabin for the actual tapping.
