It was overcast with snow flurries which meant only one thing on Groundhog Day, February 2nd ... Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow which in 'groundhogese' translates to an early spring.

Willie's prediction brought a rousing cheer from the crowd who turned out for the 61st annual  event that is the highlight of the week-long Festival In Wiarton.

The prediction came in at 8:07 a.m. via South Bruce Peninsula Mayor, Janice Jackson, and supported Willie's colleague, Shubenacadie Sam's early spring forecast in Nova Scotia.
