Saugeen Shores now has a new Economic Development Officer, Jessica Linthorne.
Linthorne, formerly with the Saugeen Shores Department of Recreation, has certification through the University of Waterloo in Economic Development and is also a certified Special Events Coordinator.
"I am very excited about this new position," said Linthorne. "I have determined that the role will be broken into three main categories ... 40 per cent Economic Development, 30 per cent Strategic Communications and 30 per cent on Corporate Projects."
She went on to add that a large part of her role will be to liaise with local businesses, develop relationships and to help those who are, perhaps, considering expansion.
Given that the area's major employer is Bruce Power Nuclear, one of the major compositions of the role will be to work to provide development that will meet the needs of incoming employees and their families and businesses to meet those needs.
According to Linthorne, the municipality will also be working with the County of Bruce, Chambers of Commerce and Business Improvement Associations (BIAs) with planning, collaboration and communication to create awareness of the region.
"One of the most intensive supports that committee can provide is the fostering of relationships through collaboration and communication," said Linthorne in her presentation to Committee. "As far as the municipality is concerned, we have to ensure investment readiness, sell the community business brand, manage recruitment tools and support local leaders who must act as ambassadors."
"This is going to be an exciting time," Linthorne added, "both for the municipality and the region."
