It's going to be a big party, the biggest party Bruce County has ever had, according to Philip Englishman, Secretary to the Saugeen Municipal Airport in Hanover.

Englishman is also Co-Chair of the CF Snowbirds 'Celebrate the Bruce 150' and at Monday night's Saugeen Shores Council meeting, he said that the Canadian Snowbirds are coming.

The Snowbirds have accepted the Bruce County invitation and all the public is invited.  Gord Price, a stunt pilot will also be coming and the Brampton Great War Museum will feature three historic aircraft that will simulate a wartime air 'dogfight'.

In addition, a de-Havilland Beaver will be part of the event.  It is now produced in B.C. by Viking Air and pilot Kevin Elwood will bring the turbo Beaver to the airport.

"All these aircraft will also be parked at the airport so that the public can get up close, except for the official Snowbird Tutor jets," said Englishman.

The Jet Aviation Museum out of London will also have a simulated cockpit that people can sit in and have their photo taken.

"It doesn't stop there," added Englishman. "The OPP Golden Helmets motorcycle team will also be there along with the Saugeen Flyers model airplane club."

"All this doesn't come free," said Englishman. "We have a budget of approximately $39,000 but, we have municipalties' support already.  Bruce County is paying for the hotel for the flight participants and Hanover, Brockton and West Grey are going to be the hosts for the 'meet and greet' where people can talk to the pilots and techs so that DND can relate to the average person."

Grey County is also contributing $4,000 for the other aircraft that will be attending and Kincardine is also on board as a sponsor.

"I also want to feature our four wonderful airports in Bruce County," added Englishman, "Saugeen Municipal, Port Elgin, Kincardine and Wiarton. The Snowbirds will be in Bruce County on June 20th.  The show will be held on June 21st, the longest day of the year so that people, including students, have the opportunity to get to the show.

Mayor Mike Smith said that Council will be considering the request for financial help and that "we are looking forward to the event".
