The paths are suitable for walking, jogging and nature watching, not
for bicycle traffic
Dangerous at best. Lots of parents and tots. Lots of seniors too!
Not a good idea for this nature preserve and those who use it. ...
It's a family park and there are lots of cycling paths.
has always been a path for walkers, joggers and nature lovers.
Children love the Turtles, Ducks and Fish. It's not a race course
This picturesque trail around the lake should kept as a walking
trail in all it's natural details and that walkers should not have
to be always looking behind them to see if a bicycle rider is coming
that they have to move to let them go by..
It is bad enough dodging them on the rail trail. Lets have one
walkway without them!
The trail around fairy lake should be for walking only.
Lets have 1 trail free of bicycles
This isn't a place to bike, The path really isn't wide enough. Its
really a place for just a walking path.
A bike rack or two would be a good idea so the folks could ride
there and then just walk around the lake.
Keep it as a walking trail. Too many bikes already on trails. It
would be nice to have at least one place to walk without fear of
being plowed ino or forced off a trail or roadway.
Bicycle stand at each end (High St. & Matheson Park) is what is
I am a cyclist, and I cycle all around Saugeen Shores, using the
current recreational trails. I think allowing cycling around Fairy
Lake would be a big mistake. Pedestrians shouldn't have worry about
watching out for bikes whizzing by, and especially those with young
children. There are plenty of other areas to go biking. Leave Fairy
Lake to the pedestrians, and those that enjoy peace and quiet.
hazardous to those walking
i already ride my mountain bike around there.
Park the bike and walk Fairy Lake! We all need to take some time to
slow down and appreciate our surroundings.
It is a pleasure just to walk leisurely around the fairy lake. There
would be nothing wrong to push the bicycle around the lake. Anyone
in a hurry can always travel a different route.
Why would there be a Bicycle path around Fairy Lake, when they have
so many other places to ride a Bike. Fairy Lake is such a peaceful
place to be able to take a walk without getting off the trail for
Too many of them out there now.Walking people only.At least they may
take in some changes that are taking place.
this is a non issue,I live on Fairy Lake and walk my dog around the
lake a couple of times a week,i very seldom see people on bicycles
around the lake.as for moving the stone around the stage area is
another stupid idea.
Port Elgin Councillors have no appreciation of natural space or
safety issues. North Shore fiasco anyone? Park bikes at a bike rack
and walk it. Simple solution. Listen to the public .
If no one is going to be at the park to stop bicycle for using the
paths. In the park
There are many other nice places to ride a bike. Save Fairy lake for
pedestrians to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
No, it is a beautiful walking trail through nature. There is not
enough space for both walkers and bikers. It would really take away
from the peaceful ambience.
NO! NO! and NO! I visit Fairy Lake just about everyday in the
summer, often bringing my grandchildren with me. We share this
beautiful spot with many locals and visitors to our area. Why should
we have to negotiate our way around cyclists when there are several
sufficient bike trails available?
This historic trail is best navigated on foot. It is a short multi
season walk in a little nature paradise right in the middle of town.
Savour the experience.Cycle on elsewhere.
Trail is no suitable for biking.
HI It is a nice peaceful walk, let's leave it that way. Also the
school discourages the pupils from using the pathway, probably
because of potential water dangers. Now the Port Elgin councilors
would like to add cycling issues to the concern of school staff.
This is a bad idea. Where else within a small town can folks enjoy a
quiet nature walk? Bicycles have many areas where they can enjoy
aceses without disturbing the tranquility of the lake area.
Fairy Lake should only be for walking. It is unsafe for bicycle
There has always been bicycles allowed around Fairy Lake. Why change
it now because it will be easier to bike around without all those
tree roots. It makes no sense.
we have a council that doesn't listen to public opinion they will go
against any neg opinions
The town is not very good at enforcing bylaws such as parking, poop
and scoop, dogs on leash etc. why add another bylaw that will not be
This area should not be over improved, keep it as natural as
Why? It will serve no useful purpose. It will only lead to teenagers
racing around the lake on bikes creating a danger to others. Who
thinks up these ridiculous ideas anyway? They should put a bike rack
at the entrance and keep the trail around the lake for foot traffic.
Path is not suitable.
Make the paths wide enough to pass people. Paths should be for
everyone to enjoy.
For safety reasons,no
Please no bicycle traffice around Fairy Lake. I live very close to
it and let's keep this as a beautiful walking path.
You have officially run out of ideas for survey questions. Of all
the topics requiring debate, "fairy lake bicycle traffic"??? yes or
no or who cares or all of the above..you pick
There are plenty of other places to ride a bicycle. Park the bicycle
and walk around and enjoy the scenery.
It's a nice walk WITHOUT bicycles
why not it's a natural tourist attraction
I live within viewing distance of Fairy Lake and have walked the
trail many a times. There is no way that the serenity of this
wonderful space should be disrupted by bicycles. No space...no
Saugeen Shores has remarkable opportunities for biking on street,
along the shore and in wooded areas. As those of us who live near
Fairy Lake can attest, this quiet, natural oasis in the middle of
town is where families have strolled with young children and fur
babies for decades. Biking is NOT a compatible activity to this.
Please respect this traditional use of our lake.
Save us from the hazard, please !
We have lots of other trails in Southampton for biking!
No to bikes but why are we wasting the landscaping and stone work
down there by changing the area at the Band Shell. Wasting tax
dollars again. Are we that rich?
just leisurely walks in the woods...not looking out for bikes.....
bicycle racks are the best idea
Not enough room....& we know from our beach sidewalk that rules may
be posted...but who is going to enforce yet more of them? Can't we
have one small area that is quiet...just for walking?
There are too many bikes in town in the summer, most riders have
horrible manners. They think they own the road and/or sidewalk.
There are seniors who cannot move quickly.
We think it is more suited to a walking path.
It's a nice walking path, just can't see it being that useful for
bicycles. There's the rail trail for that.
Not a large enough path to safely accomodate pedestrians & cyclists
The natural setting that is there can be better maintained by it
being a walking trail around the lake. It is a gathering spot for
families and the trail is far better suited for walking being narrow
and winding it's way up and down the natural elevation changes.
Do they need to go everywhere ?
This would not be safe for walkers It is already a big problem on
This would not be safe for walkers It is already a big problem on
It is a small short 1km walk. Perfect for young families. Bikes
should be allowed but not a main focus
It is separate from the bike path need a place just to walk
No. Let's have some space in Southampton that is bicycle free. Thay
take over this town in the Summer!
U have lived in Southampton my whole life. I walked the path as a
child, and now with my children. I have been on the path when a bike
has met me and I had no where to go with my stroller in parts of the
trail. There is a lot of spots where it is dangerous.
Just leave it alone. Next will be skateboard areas and moped tracks.
Can't you just say no?
I bike path is inappropriate for enjoying the beauty and serenity of
I think it would be a great ride. Safe from the traffic
Just keep it as natural as possible
keep it safe for pedestrian traffic please. There are enough bike
paths in the area already
A hiking trail is like a downtown sidewalk. No bicycles allowed on
downtown sidewalks , so why allow on hiking trails ? It is a
pedestrian safety factor .
It is not mandatory to have bikes everywhere. Let's restrict the
Fairy Lake trail to walkers and baby strollers. We should cherish
our peaceful locations that make Southampton special.
It would be great to walk around Fairy lake without having to be
concerned about bikes on the pathway.
A quiet walking path around the lake is the best use on a small
It is meant as a walking trail.
This is not a 'yes or no 'question. I believe it is a non issue. I
am a life long resident of Southampton of 60 plus and use the Fairy
Lake trail daily. There has never been an issue with bikes. The few
bikes that do use it do not pose a threat. Leave it as it is. Open
to everyone. Quote,'If it ain't broke, don't fix it!'
NOT SAFE FOR SENIORS WITH WALKERS OR CANES OR SCOOTERS
It should be a walking trail , as it is a nature trail. It is more
relaxing when you don,t have to watch for bikers.
This area should be for people walking only. In a few places there
just isn't enough room to have a bike lane. We have bikes on the
sidewalks in twon and thats not enforced.
It would be a tourist draw to turn it into an enchanted forest like
the one at Cobble Beach.
with posted signage why change what has been happening for years!!!
if you ban bikes you might as well ban strollers and wagons.
