According to health officials, there have been outbreaks of flu and colds this spring, in all probability, exacerbated by fluctuations in temperatures and weather.

Care centres and retirement homes in the area have been closed in several instances due to gastrointestinal outbreaks and severe bronchial colds.

Both Kincardine and Saugeen Shores areas have reported closures and, although some have recently re-opened, visitors are advised to call ahead.

They have also asked that if anyone has experienced cold or flu recently, or is not feeling well, to please not visit the elderly in these facilities.

Kingsway Arms at Elgin Lodge was one of the facilities that was closed due to a gastrointestinal outbreak but is now open with activities back to normal.

Pinecrest Manor in Lucknow with the same outbreak is still under closure however.
