Southampton Beach awash in a 'crystal' coat of ice

... beautiful ice-crystal shapes at the foot of High Street in Southampton

There is no doubt that an ice storm can wreak havoc but it can also create incredible beauty.

The ice storm that struck southwestern Ontario did, indeed, create upsets such as extensive power outages, downed trees, school cancellations and more. 

However, in the early morning after the ice coated everything in its path, the beauty was quite incredible.

Every plant type was ice covered

Tiny buds were coated before they had a chance to burst ... a good thing


Beaches affected by ice storm

Unfortunately, despite the beauty of an ice storm, it also creates havoc. 

Throughout many counties in Huron, Bruce, Perth and Grey, school buses were cancelled, schools were closed, tree limbs were broken, power outages occurred and several rural roads were closed.
