Dave McCutcheon anxious to get going

Departure day is just around the corner for Dave McCutcheon of Southampton who is about to undertake a five-week pilgrimage in Spain.

McCutcheon will be carrying everything he anticipates that he will need in a backpack.  Recommendations are that a hiking backpack should not weigh more than 10 per cent of a the carrier's body weight.  "I'll be carrying a very lightweight sleeping bag among the items in my pack," says McCutcheon, who has been practicing for several weeks by carrying the backpack on long walks in the area.

"I could not do this without the support of my wife, Pat," adds McCutcheon.  "This is something she knew I really wanted to do and she will join me in Spain toward the end of my walk."

McCutcheon will attempt to keep friends and family at home up to date with his travels with the help of a phone donated by McNain Communications, the authorized Rogers retail outlet in Port Elgin, Saugeen Shores.

To make the pilgrimage even more meaningful, McCutcheon decided help the local Southampton hospital along the way. The trek is now a fundraiser with pledges being taken in support of the hospital.
