Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell The County of Huron is undertaking a study that will help determine how to provide residents and visitors with better opportunities to use transportation alternatives such as walking, cycling, and carpooling. This study is the first step in creating a transportation demand management plan for the region. The county, in conjunction with a transportation task force, will develop a plan that will:
The project, funded through the Ontario Transportation Demand Management Municipal Grant Program, was created to support municipal programs that help reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by making it more attractive to use alternatives to driving alone. |
“This study will help direct the future of
transportation for our residents and tourists,”
said Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce
"We are pleased that the
Ministry's grant will help Huron County identify ways to improve
people's health while also reducing single-occupant car trips. This
study will help Council, staff and the public put our 'Take Action for
Sustainable Huron' report into action."
The County of Huron will receive $37,250 for the study. Ontarians are, in fact, using public transit in record numbers. In 2008, there were over 802 million trips made on public transit. |
