Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) holds elections

Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) of Saugeen in Southampton elected their new council last week.

This election resulted in more women being voted in than in any previous election.  Those voted to Council were:  Sonya Roote, Joanne Mason, Leticia Root-Thompson and Stacey John.

Several others were returned to council including:  Vernon Roote, Stub Roote, Bryan Johnson and Clint Root.

Chief Randall Kahgee was acclaimed.  According to sources, it is the only time in recent memory that a Chief of Saugeen has been acclaimed.
