The South-Port chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) held a vigil in Port Elgin to remember 14 young women of L'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal who were murdered on December 6, 1989.

The day marked the 24th anniversary of the Montreal massacre by deranged murderer Marc Lepine who walked into the school, separated the female students from the male students and proceeded to annihilate the women.

"Women are still the victims of violence today," said Pat Sanagan of CFUW, "and are still suffering at the hands of those closest to them, by those they trust the most."
