Gordon Laco has made a career evangelizing history through Film and Television from his base of operations in Midland, Ontario and will be Guest Commentator for the classic movie 'Master and Commander' at Bruce County Museum.

His area of particular specialty is helping productions achieve authenticity and the feel of gritty reality. He has served as consultant or producer to over fifty television and film productions including “Master and Commander, the Far Side of the World” for which he was Lead Technical Advisor, and “Pirates of the Caribbean II, III and IV, for which he supplied authentic rigging and ship’s fittings.

Laco is also head of North America’s largest supplier of real working equipment and consulting services to historic sailing ships and classic yachts.   His clients include the USS CONSTITUTION, the whaling ship CHARLES W MORGAN, the US Coast Guard ship EAGLE, and our own H.M.C.S. ORIOLE.

Laco was co-founder of Atlantic Challenge Canada, part of a growing worldwide youth movement which utilizes seamanship in historic open boats to empower young people. He is going to Ireland in July as Trainer for the Canadian team as they compete in the biannual international Atlantic Challenge gathering.

He is a past Executive Director of Toronto Brigantine Inc., operators of the two award winning square rigged school ships STV Pathfinder and TS Playfair and, before that for four years, was Captain of the historic War of 1812 era sailing warship H.M.S. Bee, operated by the Government of Ontario on the Upper Great Lakes.

He currently sits on the Boards of Directors of Tall Ships America (ex-American Sail Training Association) and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society and is a serving Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy’s Reserve.
