Police repeat scam warning to residents

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON)The South Bruce OPP continues to receive complaints about the “computer repair” scam.

This past week, the on-line con artists gained access to two computers – one in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, the other in the Municipality of Kincardine.

Therefore, the South Bruce OPP is sending another warning about callers who want to fix your computer.  The scammers identify themselves as employees of “Microsoft” or “On-line PC Care” and tell you they can fix a problem with your computer. The “fix” costs $200 that is charged to your credit card.

If you didn’t make the phone call – how do you know who is on the other end? When you want your computer serviced, consult a legitimate, reputable computer repair technician.

Don’t hand over your hard-earned money to some smooth-talking con artist on the other end of a phone line.  Anyone interested in more information on fraud can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-800-495-8501 or on-line: http://www.antifraudcentre.ca
