Understanding nuclear power

When it comes to nuclear power and living next door to a nuclear power plant, it helps to know the fundamental basics of how it actually works!

Further, growing up in what was the uranium capital of the world, Elliot Lake,  you'd think I would really understand the whole thing from beginning to end.

Actually, I always thought I did know until I was asked by a more senior lady the other day,  "With this new DGR thing in the news, can you tell me how nuclear energy really works?"

When I tried to explain it, I realized I didn't know as much as I thought.   The more muddled I got, the more this lady's eyes glazed over!

I took a deep breath and, in the old tradition when I don't really know what I'm talking about, said, "You know what?  I'll find out and get back to you."

What better source to go to than Bruce Power? Fortunately, the company is at the top of the Saugeen Times, so what could be easier?

I clicked on their ad and went directly to their web-site. Lo and behold, there, under Nuclear Energy, was "How Does it Work" complete with diagrams.

So, senior lady (who reads the Saugeen Times faithfully), instead of listening to my muddled attempts to explain what is a relatively simple system, go to Bruce Power at the top of the 'Times', click on their ad and go to the Nuclear Energy section 'How does it work?'
