Results from South Bruce OPP Festive RIDE program Week 5

(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - The OPP is conducting its annual Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign until Jan. 1, 2012, and is reminding motorists that province-wide RIDE stops will be highly-visible throughout the holiday season. 

The South Bruce OPP is utilizing all available personnel to participate in this campaign. Five charges were laid during the fifth week:

Dec. 28, at 10:16 p.m., at a RIDE check on Bruce County Road 6, Carrick Township, 22-year-old John FROOK of Brant Township was charged with Open alcohol out of residence, and 24-year-old Colin GRUBB of Mildmay was charged with Open alcohol out of residence. 

Dec. 23, at 1:40 p.m., at a RIDE check on Yonge Street North, Walkerton, 25-year-old David ST ONGE of Hanover was charged with Drive while under suspension, Drive vehicle with no validation, Drive vehicle with no insurance. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 1, 2012, to answer to the charges. 

The Festive RIDE campaign concludes Jan. 1, 2012, but the threat to public safety exists all year," says inspector Bill Klym, commander, South Bruce OPP. "South Bruce OPP officers will be conducting RIDE checks all year long to deter the leading cause of criminal death in Canada – impaired driving. There is no excuse for drinking and driving - drive soberly or don’t drive at all. The South Bruce OPP has a zero tolerance for motorists who drive after drinking.”
