Taking a break from it all at Niagara Falls: David (L), Gregory, Geoffrey, Rebecca and Liz Dadson

There is something to be said for taking a break and getting away from it all.

"All," of course, is the routine of life - including work, work and more work, with a smattering of TV and book-reading when you have a moment. And for the kids, video games and Facebook.

So, while tourists were coming to Kincardine for vacations by the lake, the Dadson family went to Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls for our holiday.

And we had a great time. If you're not familiar with Great Wolf Lodge, it's an all-inclusive waterpark resort, complete with an amazing array of water slides, pools, hot tubs, a mini-golf course, arcade, spa, and so forth.

It's also close to Clifton Hill and the "Falls" and all those wonderful tourist attractions.

I've been told that a change is as good as a rest. And that is certainly true because we didn't do a whole lot less than we do any other day, but we did many different things.

We toured Louis Tussaud's Wax Museum which was kind of creepy, and the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum which was really creepy. And took a ride on the "Moving Theatre" which was amazing.

We also enjoyed the waterpark - okay, David and the children enjoyed it. I provided the entertainment as I screamed all the way down the water slides. Hey, they are a long way up and you travel really fast - and it's water, after all, so you could drown.

Suffice it to say, I went on a couple of rides, but preferred floating on the Lazy River.

For me, it was more of a thrill to have someone else make the meals, clean the dishes, and provide the housekeeping!

But, as with all good things, it came to an end and we toured back home, prepared to take on the rest of the summer, and with plenty of memories of good, family fun.

Ah, life in the fast lane.
