logoIt’s a new year of 4-H as the clubs are just starting to really get going.

This year, Ripley has a square dancing club, with 15 members taking part for a bundle of fun. This year's club leaders are Sharon Martin and Donna Bridge.

The club held its first meeting on April 1. At this meeting we held our elections, with Julien B. as president, Rachael C. as vice-president, and Emily E. as the secretary/press reporter. We then went on to learn the basics of square dancing. We looked as if we knew what we were doing by the end.

The second meeting was held April 8. All the members enjoyed learning two new dances. The roll call for this meeting was to introduce a friend. Everyone partnered up and learned new things we didn’t all ready know about the other person. Then we shared with all the club what we had learned about the person. Sam Finnie showed everyone how to do two new dances: “Birdie in the Cage” and “ Duck for the Oyster”.

Our third meeting was held April 15. At this meeting, we experienced what it’s like to be the caller. Everyone got a chance to take a break and be the boss. We again learned two new dances. These dances focused on listening to the calls very clearly. We all had an amazing time and look forward to every meeting. A special thanks to Sam and Heather Finnie for teaching us how to square dance - it has been a blast!

The club held the fourth meeting April 29. At this meeting, we had a special guest caller - Kim Hooey. On behalf of the whole club, I would like to thank Kim for all of her help.

One more announcement from the club: we will be holding our achievement night, May 27, 7:30 p.m., at Ripley-Huron Community School. This meeting will be open to the public. We hope to see you there!
