Donna Coughlan is looking for people to open their homes to fostering a loving cat which would, otherwise, have nowhere to go.

Already, she and Phil White have 16 cats at Allies for Alley Catz which they operate from their Kincardine home. Of these, 10 are available for adoption.

"We can't take anymore in our home, so we're trying to find temporary homes for cats, on an emergency basis," says Coughlan. "Some people are in desperate situations and can't keep their cat, so we're looking for places to foster these pets."

She says that Jean Robinson of Lucknow is wonderful to foster kittens in her home, but more homes are needed.

Coughlan is working with Pet Rescue in Lucknow which is in need of foster homes for dogs because there are already 40 dogs and a few cats at the shelter.

"We have about 10 cats in foster homes now," says Coughlan. "Since August, we have adopted out 16 kittens with help from Carole Robinson of Pet Valu, but we need more foster homes for several other cats and kittens."

Coughlan just welcomed a new male cat - the 16th one - to her home. "Tigger" is about eight months old, neutered, short-haired, and is good with other cats.

To foster a cat, there are certain criteria that people must follow, says Coughlan. These are indoor cats, they require certain food which she supplies, and she can also supply cat litter if required, and she has the veterinarian services done.

"We need people to provide homes for these cats until we can find them a permanent home," she says.

Bruce Barker at myFM Radio has chosen Allies for Alley Catz as his charity of the year and is helping the shelter fund-raise through the winter.

The following cats are available for adoption:

This young male needs a forever home. He is blind in one eye. Very affectionate. Currently at a farm but wants to be an inside cat

A bit skittish around noise, Baccardi likes quiet, loves to be petted lots! Would be most suitable for a retired person who loves to have company and companionship

Found on the south side of Kincardine, young female due to have kittens within a couple of weeks or so. Shy but sweet. If you know who owns this girl, let us know. She will be up for adoption if no one claims her

This baby was starving on the streets of Lucknow, has a collar on so may be someone's lost pet. He is weak and recovering at a foster home now. If you know who owns this kitten, let us know. Otherwise, we will be looking for a new home for him in a few weeks. Very cuddly. Just wants to be loved

Donna Coughlan holds "Tigger," the most recent addition to Allies for Alley Catz - he is available for adoption

Lovely girl , loves to be petted. Tortoise shell colour. Pregnant and should have kittens soon. After they are weaned and she is spayed, she will be up for adoption

Quiet and sweet, "Betty" was left behind in an apartment. She is at a foster home but needs a nice quiet home where she can be loved. She is an inside-only cat. Is now used to children and other cats, however, may like to be the only one or one of two

Kittens found in dumpsters behind Tim Hortons and KFC in Wingham. For adoption - they are taming up nicely. Will vet-check
