The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has announced it has changed the public hearing date for the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station Licence Renewals from Sept. 15, 2014, to Spring 2015.

This change has been made following a request from Bruce Power for an extension of the expiry date of the current operating licenses by seven months to allow for more time for a fulsome public discussion prior to the hearing.

Upon reviewing the request from Bruce Power, the CNSC has granted an extension until May 31, 2015. To read the official Record of Proceeding explaining the Commissionís decision, click here.

As for the Participant Funding offering for the Bruce Licence renewal, the Contribution Agreements will still be valid, however, they will need to be amended to reflect the new dates and timelines.

Before sending updated Contribution Agreements to sign, the CNSC requests that participants confirm that they or their organization is still interested and able to participate in the Bruce licence renewal request regulatory review and licence hearing.

This extension will provide a much longer period of time for organizations to complete the deliverables as outlined in their Contribution Agreements, as their deliverables will now be due in Spring, 2015 instead of August, 2014.
