A cake beyond compare!
Principal Dan Russell takes part in Young Men's drumming
It was an entire day of celebration for G. C. Huston Public School in Southampton (Saugeen Shores) as the entire community celebrated the school's 60th anniversary.
Although the original school that is now part of the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre began in the early 1900s, the existing more-modern school turned 60 years old on June 4, 2014.
The day was filled with activities that ranged from a bake sale to a dunk tank where the Principal, Dan Russell, gave students the chance to ... get him all wet - with many succeeding!!
Principal Dan Russell looks apprehensive in the dunk tank ...
... and then in he goes!!!
... but climbs right back on to the hot seat ... err, wet seat!
It was a day of outdoor activities that included a fire-pit marshmallow roast and indoor activities for the younger students that ranged from a fishpond to indoor golf putting.
'Max' looks askance at the marshmallow toasted by his grampa ...
... but then, it's THUMBS UP... delicious!!!
The day was topped off with the annual summer fish-fry that saw almost 300 residents turn out for a dinner that included fresh-cooked fish and salads.
G. C. Huston Public School is a central hub for the Southampton community where the community band practices and several other groups utilize the space. It also has one of the strongest parent-teacher councils in the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB).
It is a multi-cultural school in every sense where the First Nation's culture is explored and all students are encouraged to take part in learning more about other cultures.
The school practices student exchange programs, both in-bound and out-bound, so that students have the opportunity to travel and experience other lifestyles.
An unusual foot race ... remove the marbles with your toes!!

... and then was 'scooted' away
