Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) is about to get a new leader.

Principal Ron Code about to hand over reigns to newly appointed Principal Melissa McEwan

Principal Ron Code will retire on August 31st of this year (2014) after 31 years as an educator, and is handing over the reigns to Melissa McEwan.

"I could not think of a better person to fill the job," said Code.

McEwan comes to the position with an extensive background in Special Education and having filled several positions in Hanover at John Diefenbaker school, Chesley and Grey Highlands.

McEwan has already met the Student Council and says that her priority is to listen to the student voices.  "It's very important to have students be accountable and to be able to express their opinions."

She says that she also considers it important to build a community culture in the school and to be visible.  "I feel that I'm up for challenge and the changes that will be coming and Ron has always been a real mentor for me."

McEwan lives in Owen Sound with husband, Collin and her son, Emmitt (10).
