Music teacher, Ian Burbidge conducts his last end-of-year Awards Assembly as he also gets ready to retire

Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) held the 2014 Awards Assembly last week and, for many, it is the end of high school ... not only students but also teachers.

Mrs. Hilbig and Ms Ebel are retiring, as is Principal Ron Code after more than 30 years as an educator.

Ron Code

"I've seen many positive changes during my tenure as principal," said Code.  "The High Skills Major Program came into effect; the off-site construction program started by teacher Bud Halpin to give students hands-on building experience; the return of school dances; excellence in athletics, music and arts ... and these are the backbone of this school and of a well-rounded education."

Code went on to say that of the 2014 graduate students 43 had been accepted to colleges and another 42 to universities.

"I am very proud of the SDSS community ... staff, teachers, students and parents have all made this an exceptional school."
