On a blustery Wednesday, Nov. 19, the Ripley and District Horticultural Society held its annual Christmas potluck. The food was scrumptious as usual.

The meal was followed by an auction of Christmas planters designed by Gail Van Der Hoek and her team. Members and guests were eager buyers with the proceeds going to the horticultural society.

Courtney Bridge, RBC Royal Bank banking advisor, presented Gwyneth Farrell with the Royal Bank Award for most points in the 2014 Flower Show. Farrell is a relative newcomer to the horticultural society.

President Shirley Harris handed out a life membership award, for long-standing contribution to the Ripley and District Horticultural Society,to Isabelle Carter.

Harris also praised Carter for her work as a leader in the society's youth club "For Our Youth."

A good time of Christmas cheer was had by all.
