Municipal Committees invite new applicants for 2015

Do you want to become more involved in the operations of your community?  The Town of Saugeen Shores is seeking interested individuals to serve on Municipal Committees.

 Interested individuals are asked to complete and submit an application including details of your experience for appointment to the committee(s) of your choice.

Applications are available at the Town office or on the Town’s website www.saugeenshores.ca . The term of the committee appointments is for the years 2015 and 2016. The deadline to submit an application is noon on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015.

Any member currently serving on a Committee is more than welcome to indicate their interest to continue to serve on that Committee or any of the committees listed below.

Accessibility Committee

The Accessibility Committee advises Council on accessibility issues under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act reviews and advises Council with respect to the Town of Saugeen Shores’ Accessibility Plan. The majority of the membership of this Committee shall be comprised of persons with disabilities. This Committee meets monthly in the daytime.

Airport Committee

The Airport Committee provides the overall policy direction for the management, maintenance, operation and promotion of the Port Elgin Airport. This Committee meets monthly or as required either in the daytime or evening.

 Emergency Management Program Committee

This Committee conducts an annual review of the municipality’s Emergency Management Program and advises Council on the development and implementation of the municipality’s Emergency Management Program. Public appointees to this Committee must be a representative of the County, Provincial or Federal level of government; or be a representative of an organization or industry that is involved in emergency management. The Committee meets annually or on an as needed basis in the daytime.

Municipal Heritage Committee

The Municipal Heritage Committee advises Council on matters regarding conservation and recognition of buildings and property of historic or architectural value in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act. This Committee advises Council on recognizing individuals who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of heritage in Saugeen Shores and undertakes research on properties and buildings of historical interest. This Committee meets monthly either in the daytime or evening.

Planning Advisory Committee

This Committee acts as the Town of Saugeen Shores’ Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee and makes recommendations to Council through a public meeting process for amendments to the Town of Saugeen Shores’ Official Plan, Zoning By-law, Consents, Minor Variances and Plans of Subdivisions. The Planning Advisory Committee fulfills the statutory requirements of holding public meetings in accordance with the Planning Act. This Committee meets monthly in the evening and occasionally in the daytime.

Police Service Board

The Town of Saugeen Shores requires one member to be appointed by Council to the Town of Saugeen Shores Police Service Board. The Board meets monthly in the late afternoon and evening.

Westario Power

The Town of Saugeen Shores requires one member to be appointed by Council to the Westario Power Board of Directors. Westario Power meets quarterly or at the call of the Chair.

The Town is currently undertaking a review of the mandates of the Parks and Trails Committee and Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee and, therefore, is not seeking applications for volunteers at this time. We appreciate your patience as Council completes their review of the committees’ structures.
