6th Annual Nawash Invitational Mountain Bike Race

Steve Nadjiwan

It is that time of year again—time for the Sixth Annual Nawash Invitational Mountain Bike Race at Cape Croker Park, Saturday morning, Sept. 6, starting at 11:00. We hope you can bring as many kids as possible, so contact Judy Nadjiwan at jnadjiwan@yahoo.ca and she can send you a registration form, or pick one up at the Nawash Board of Education office. Registration is free, but we need to know in advance who can make it as we are preparing a nutritious lunch and race kits for all children participating. Age categories start at Under Six and go to 14-17; boys and girls are separate categories, but race together.

If you would like to volunteer, we need race marshals, race registration people to register cyclists as they arrive, and set up and tear down folks too.  There is great camping in the park, so just go to theirs website at capecrokerpark.com or call at 519 534 0571 to reserve.

The star of our poster is Steve Nadjiwan, who is shown in his BMX racing gear (though this is a moutain bike race). Steve is rewriting the record book this year in BMX—an event he just started halfway through the summer.

Steve was also seventh at the Ontario Elementary School Mountain Bike Championships and took the silver medal at both the Bluewater and Ontario XC Ski Championships this year. We are very proud of Steve and many other athletes from Cape Croker. Even though cycling is not an event at the North American Indigenous Games (held this year in Cowichan Valley, BC), 100% of the kids who made the Ontario team from Nawash were graduates from the ski/bike team.
