Kids Street Integrated Non-Profit Cooperative Nursery School is a rainbow of colour and toys that are deceptively fun even though they are actually teaching tools.

The school officially opened its new location on Green Street in Port Elgin with Mayor Mike Smith officiating at the ribbon cutting.

"The location we were in before," says Ashley Schram, Parent Liaison with the Board, "had a flight of very steep stairs that the parents had a difficult time to manoeuvre.  This is so much better for everyone as we are on one level and are central in Port Elgin."

At Kids' Street children come for a period of two and half hours a day, either morning (9-11:30 a.m.) or afternoon (1- 3:30 p.m.) for a very reasonable $15.

With two teachers, an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and trained staff, it is not only a social experience for children but it is also very much a stimulating learning experience, with resources for children with special needs.

The nursery school, owned and operated by a Board made up of parents, has been in operation since 1989 and, today, there are 74 children, ranging from 16 months to four or five years, with a waiting list for the morning class.

It is also an opportunity for parents to meet and participate in their children's learning and is a place where various religious and ethical backgrounds are left at the door.

The school is already planning on expanding with an outdoor play area at the rear of the building.
