When Pauline Derry decided to emBARK on a second career, she knew it had to be one where dogs were involved.

She enrolled in the Ontario Government's 'Second Career' program that is offered to those wanting to make a career change, start a small business or go on to post-secondary education.

For Derry, it was the perfect fit.  Meeting all the entry criteria, she entered the Dog Port Academy of Dog Grooming in Woodstock, Ontario.

"It was a very intensive program," says Derry, "that was hands-on training with every type of dog imaginable.  We had to learn everything when it came to dog grooming, from bathing to esthetics and the difference when it comes to breeds, whether small or large."

With two dogs and cats of her own, Derry treats every dog as though it were her own.

She graduated in April and, today, Derry owns and operates South Paws Dog Grooming in Southampton.
