The Town of Saugeen Shores has opened the doors to Centennial Pool, in Port Elgin for those residents affected by frozen water lines.

"We understand there are a number of residents without access to water because of frozen water lines. Centennial Pool has been made available for those affected by opening their showers at no charge to residents,"  said J ayne Jagelewski, Director of Community Services with the Town of Saugeen Shores.

Those coming to the pool are reminded to bring their own towels and toiletries.

Centennial Pool hours are:

  • Monday and Wednesday 6am-1pm and 3:30-8:30pm;

  • Tuesday and Thursday 7am-2pm and 3:30-8:30pm;

  • Friday 6am-1pm & 3:30-7pm

  • Saturday and Sunday 12-2:30pm.

For those who suspect their home may be at risk of a frozen line, it is recommended to continuously run a slow stream of water from cold water tap until warmer weather is present.

Residents are also encouraged to disconnect and drain any outdoor hoses, seal air leaks in home and garage, open cabinets around plumbing to allow warmer air to access pipes and if planning to lower/turn off your furnace be sure to drain pipes, toilets and water heater.

"Leaving a small stream (about the size of pencil lead) from your cold tap will help protect your pipes. Although it can be frustrating to leave this tap on (seeming wasteful), you are protecting yourself from the inconvenience and further damage a burst pipe could do," says Stuart Doyle, Director of Public Works with the Town of Saugeen Shores.
