Barrack Obama is the only US President to hold a science fair at the White House.  He has been doing this since 2010.

He understands that the role models for young people are star athletes, rock and movie stars.  They attract a lot of attention.

Is there a role for the so called Nerd to be a kid hero?  Obama thinks so.  Is there a role for a young girl to be an example of success in Science?  Obama thinks so.  Take a look at the White House web site Click Here  Notice the number of girls.

Do the young people across Canada know the superstars at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo?  Not many do.

I've personally seen, however, high school students come to the outreach lectures at PI.  It was a thrill to see them and hear their questions.  The world renowned scientists at PI treated them with respect.

The number of scientific superstars is much like those in pro sports, many are called, but few are chosen

Sure parents are very proud of their good student children.  There is, however, no rush to produce trading cards for scientific superstars.

Maybe there is a market for trading cards with people like Dirac, Einstein and Newton on one side and what they are known for on the other.  We might hear:  "I'll trade you a Gauss for a Feynman."
