“Hayley - congratulations on the honour that has been conferred upon you & wherever your future paths take you, we sincerely wish you all the best."

March 3rd  2015, 340 Air Cadets held a graduation parade for WO1 Hayley Laur.

WO1 Laur started her career as an air cadet just a few weeks after her 12th birthday in April 2008 and graduated just a week before her 19th birthday in March 2015.

2Lt Laurie Laur and her daughter WO1 Hayley Laur

WO1 Laur attended several summer training camps during her cadet career, including: General Training, Basic Survival, Basic Leadership, Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course, and went on an International Exchange to the United States where cadets from around the world met and shared their experiences.  In addition Warrant Laur attended all weekend activities involving the Squadron, including Survival and Sports Weekends, CF Base Borden Activity Days, Remembrance Day Ceremonies, Tag Days, Community Service days and End of Year trips.

During the graduation parade she received the Cadet Medal of Excellence from the Port Elgin Legion.  This award recognizes individual endeavours in citizenship, which is one of the the aims of the cadet movement.  It is given to outstanding cadets, not only for their cadet activities, but their activities outside of cadets are also taken into consideration (school achievements, community service, other clubs or sports).  Only one medal per cadet Corps/Squadron can be awarded in a given training year, not necessarily to the senior-most Cadet.
