Saugeen Shores Council approved the 2015 budget on Monday, March 23rd (2015).
With a total budget of $28,864,576 and revenues of $17,736,441 there is a shortfall of $11,128,135, which is the tax levy that has been set to finance the Operating Budget and pre-approved Capital Budget.
As with other municipalities, the 2015 Budget and levy have been impacted by cuts from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF).
In Saugeen Shores, $343,500, has been cut this year and is expected to be cut even further in 2016 and 2017.
When the Municipal tax rate is combined with the County and School rates the average overall property tax increase is 3.25%, compared to the municipal levy of 4.21%.
In addition, a Waste Management Services level in the amount of $27.53 per property was approved and will raise approximately $218,014 that will include collection, disposal and recycling.
Not everyone around the table was happy with the Waste Management amount. Councilor Dave Myett pointed out that there are many rural residents who own property that is 'land only' and yet they will also be charged the amount on each parcel although no waste is generated.
