In this survey there were an inordinate number of multiple votes with a comment that indicated anger and/or frustration.  We counted only one vote whether No or Yes.

Multiple voting .... hmmmm.  You can express your opinion easily in the comments without trying to influence the vote one way or another.  Most people just vote and don't comment.

Decline of service

Why? And which bright spark brought this gem in from left field?

Loosing good paying jobs in the Town of Saugeen shores. How does that help the people of Saugeen Shores. Cheaper collection at what cost?
_______________________________
more expense for tax payers loss of good jobs in our area
_______________________________
Brown bag and christmas tree pick has already been dropped. No doubt taxes will rise if you go to a private system. Also must consider the cost of tendering and contract clauses.
_______________________________
We should not have bag tags, just put the cost back into the taxes.
_______________________________
Ridiculous change for saving $15K. Who is behind this Ebeneezer?
_______________________________
Not a big enough savings to justify privatization.
_______________________________
My mother lived in Etobicoke where garbage was privatized. She was very dissatisfied with the pick up or lack of pick up. If Friday was pick up she might have pick up early morning, late night or several times on Saturday. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

excellent service by dedicated employees that would probably lose their jobs. Possible unknown costs of contracting in the future. Do not allow the municipality to lose control.
_______________________________
No accountability this way. If they think they will save money doing this they have made another stupid decision.
_______________________________
Leave it as it is, we've had good service for over 40 yrs.
_______________________________
ABSOLUTELY NOT! This would mean a loss of employment and cause financial hardship for some families. There is no guarantee that the service would be the same as it is right now, which is excellent. There is no guarantee that the cost would remain the same. DO NOT DO THIS!
_______________________________
Absolutely not!! A savings of more than $15,000 can probably be found by cutting at least 1 management position - no labourers, no need for management!!
_______________________________
why put our town staff out of jobs, and create a sanitation system that will be open to priceing increases how and when they want? Makes no sense to me.
_______________________________
Once it goes private the costs will sky rocket. Itts a proven fact. Our town guys are the best. KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS why mess with a good thing?
_______________________________
It is terrible to do this to save 15,000 cut back on the police staff(restart people are gone southampton caters to retires do not care about Saugeen town., police force breaks more laws that anyone(cheating on partners, racing on concession roads beating up on innocent people just to name a few, fire department with there expensive toys.We want our loyal people to stay.
_______________________________
I don't want to be in the hands of a private contractor who may reduce service or once they have the contract increase their contract costs. I am happy with the performance of our Town employees and it provides summer employment for our children.
_______________________________
Not to save $15K at the expense of two jobs
_______________________________
Why? $15,000 a year how long before they jack the prices up.
_______________________________
Privatize and lose control
_______________________________
I'll be voting against whoever votes for this.
_______________________________
We pay enough in taxes that we (as a town) can afford municipal garbage collection.
_______________________________
We're paying $2.00 per bag now...the municipality should be able to manage the waste collection with that!
_______________________________
Are we the rob fords of Bruce county!
_______________________________
The cost savings isn't worth the trouble of switching to a new company. Keep it local and hire local!!
_______________________________
Absolutely not. If there is only one bidder for the next contract the Town, meanings ratepayers, will be held ransom. Heck, using the same logic, let's contract out police services and fire fighting services too. Actually, when one thinks about it contracting police services to the OPP does make sense.
_______________________________
garbage collection should be the responsibility of our municipality, paid for through our taxes.
_______________________________
no way! our town employees do a great, reliable job.
_______________________________
We have good and reliable service now - no change required.
_______________________________
It is time the town starts saving taxpayers money. It would be a welcome change. Although the town did not mention that they have hired more people overall thereby eliminating any real overall benefit. I would like to see those numbers published.
_______________________________
The town should act responsibly and deal with the garbage collection in an efficient manner and not pass the buck to a contractor. We pay taxes to the town to deal with town services and in return expect them to deliver with a tight control on expenditure. Stop considering alternatives and get on with the job efficiently and economically.
_______________________________
Yes , provided the service level is the same.
_______________________________
absolutely not ! I'm sure " sails " could be trimmed by looking at the discretionary spending habits of the town council and other municipal staff ..... penney wise , pound foolish ...

_______________________________
Why not privitize Town Hall at the same time?
_______________________________
the trucks can be sold and the money used for other things...this wasn't mentioned in the article from council
_______________________________
Community services should remain in public hands.
_______________________________
No municipal or government services or utilities should be privatized. It always leads to profit over service, and obnoxious "policies"
_______________________________
workers do a good job now!!
_______________________________
Why are we giving job away. The service level will go down and the cost will go up. i like the idea that the staff we have live in our community and spend their money in our town. Send it out of town and it hurt our economy. that is my 2 cents.
_______________________________
Do we really need to save $17,000.00 dollars at the cost of service to us by municipal staff? And in the next couple of years what increases will the contracted company jack up their rates??
_______________________________
I doubt that they will have the same professionalism that our town staff have.
_______________________________
What's new then?
_______________________________
Lost 2 permanent jobs from Port Elgin.
_______________________________
No need to change....no savings and the service is excellent. This is just change for the sake of change.
_______________________________
The savings is minimal and the furture possible awarding of suspicoius contracts [like the current Liberal Goverment] makes it uneconomical.
_______________________________
Keep jobs local. Privatation does not save money.
