Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) held its126th Annual Commencement Ceremony to honour recent graduates on Friday, October 9th (2015).

According to school counselor, Susan Dauphin, it was one of the largest graduating classes with 160 students graduating and receiving various awards.

The students were garbed in new blue graduation gowns that were purchased with funds raised by SDSS musicals over the past number of years.

Saugeen First Nation Band Councilor, Sonya Roote, brought greetings from Saugeen saying to the students, "I've watched many of you grow up and I am overwhelmed here tonight.  You have the whole world ahead of you now, so keep your goals in front of you and hold on to them."

Valedictorian for 2015 was Ray Harrison, who was introduced by Emma DeBoer with a unique 'rap'

Harrison, who also received the Outstanding Creative Writer Award, was witty but also passed on some words of wisdom to fellow classmates.

"Remember where you came from and where you are going," he said.  "The path to success is long with ups and downs but you have to believe in yourself and don't waste your time envying someone else's life.  Education is a springboard that will launch us to wherever we want to go."

More than 60 students also made the Ontario 2014 - 2015 Scholars list with an average of 80 per cent or higher.
