By the time you read this, the 2015 Poppy campaign will be underway.
Every household in the municipality should receive a poppy in the mail and Poppy boxes will be in place at businesses throughout the community. Please consider making a donation to the Poppy fund and wear your Poppy proudly knowing you have helped with veterans support and services.
Remembrance Day events this year are as follows: Sunday, November 8th, there will be a Remembrance service in Tiverton at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Remembrance Day banquet at the Kincardine Legion.
The banquet begins with a social hour at 4:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 5:00 p.m. The guest speaker this year will be Derek Moore, Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command Vice President. Tickets are $15.00 and are available at the Legion.
On Wednesday, November 11th, Kincardine Legion service begins at 10:00 a.m. in the hall. The service will move outdoors to the Cenotaph at approximately 10:40. Social time and a light lunch in the hall will follow the service.
The 35th annual Legion craft show and bake sale will be held Saturday, November 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get your Christmas shopping under way.
Sunday, November 15th, will be the next family dinner. This month will feature roast beef, vegetables, dessert, and tea or coffee. The cost for this great home-cooked meal is only $12.00 for seniors, $14.00 for adults, $10.00 for kids 6 to 12 and those 5 and under are free. There is also a family rate of $44.00 for 2 adults and 2 children.
The November kitchen parties will be held on the 13th and 27th at 7 pm. Euchre is played every Friday at 7 pm and meat draws are held every Saturday with the first draw at 3 pm. There will be a mega meat draw in December, more info will be provided at a later date.
The next trivia night will be Friday Nov 20 at 7 pm. As mentioned in previous Legion Corners, the legion has two pool tables and a shuffleboard available for anyone to use, NOT just legion members. The legion is open from 3 to 10 pm weekdays and 2 to 6 on Saturday.
Those members who came to the general meeting on Sunday Oct 25th, and unfortunately there weren’t many, were treated to a great lunch following the meeting. It looks like this will be happening after future general meetings for the foreseeable future at least. Not only do you get to contribute to YOUR legion when you attend these meetings, you now get a lunch as well. The next general meeting will be Sunday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. All legion members are encouraged to attend.
