Port Elgin Rotary Club has stepped up to help the Saugeen Shores Refugee Fund.

On Thursday, December 3rd, Rotary members, Bob Lunney, Ken Dolbec, Doug Gowanlock and Dan Murawsky, presented a $5,000 cheque to Katherine Martinko, a coordinator of the program that is raising funds to sponsor a refugee family from Syria.

Local residents have been working with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a non-governmental organization that has a history of refugee settlement.

The selected family is currently undergoing security screenings in the refugee camp near Beirut.  The organizers are also hoping to bring a second family to the area.
