Is revolution the right word?  How can we be in the midst of a revolution and not be aware of it?

I think about revolution as being about chaos and a lack of a clear path to order, but the grass roots revolution in microprocessors is inexpensive, orderly and spreading rapidly.  The general public as yet is unaware.

What is Arduino?

Arduino is an open-source computer hardware and software company, project and user community that designs and manufactures microcontroller-based kits for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical world.

It is all about accessible knowledge that is shared.  It is used in thousands of projects from home hobbyist to students, scientists and engineers.  The Arduino is used in both fun projects and serious commercial endeavors.

The idea has spawned break-out technology advancement that is having a terrific impact.

Close to home, the Bruce County Museum uses them in their displays and visitor attractions, thanks to volunteer effort.

  • The Arduino platform is inexpensive ... starter kits are available on www.amazon.com.
  • The software runs on Windows, OSX and Linux operating systems.
  • The software is published as open source available to all.
  • Plans for the Arduino boards are published so they can be extended for use in big commercial projects.
  • Build and try breadboards are the way to start.
  • Teach yourself electronics is the way to go.
  •  A popular publication called Make is loaded with advice and projects.  Click Here
  • There are a lot of support and add-on developers of software and hardware.  Check out adafruit
