The Saugeen Shores 'Team'
in their favourite hockey jerseys

Saugeen Shores' Mayor, Council and staff donned their favourite hockey jerseys for Monday night's Council meeting, January 25th (2016).

They weren't there to play but, instead, to show their support for two big hockey events ... the upcoming International Girls Silver Stick Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Hockey Tournament  ... and for this weekend's Winterhawks' Liv-A-Little Foundation fundraiser.

This weekend's WOAA Men's Senior Hockey game on January 30th will be a fundraiser for the Liv-A-Little Foundation in support of Olivia Little who has been diagnosed with Cystinosis, an as yet, incurable disease.  The game will be a tribute to the former Port Elgin Sunocos hockey team and 'retro' jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds from the game, auction and sales going to the Liv-A-Little Foundation. At the Silver Stick Tournament, the roster is completely filled as 40 teams will be coming to compete from across Ontario in this year's OWHA sanctioned tournament, from Novice C to Midget C ages on February 5th to 7th.

The weekend will kick off with the Jersey Day Contest on Friday, February 5th for all Saugeen Shores school students.

Then, on Saturday, February 6th, it's  pancake breakfast time in the Rotary Hall at the PLEX in Port Elgin and the Caitlyn Cobean Community Crusaders invites everyone to come out for a hearty breakfast of pancakes and sausage fundraiser for the Tara'boom' Foundation and to watch some great hockey.

"We hope everyone will come out and show their support," say Heather Lorenz, Jersey Day Contest organizer and Tournament organizer, Kerri Hardman.  "This is a big tournament for Saugeen Shores and an honour to be able to host it, especially when February 6th is also Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada ... and we will have three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Botterill here along with Sportsnet, who will be televising some segments.  It's going to be a super weekend!"
